Work on the 13-meter-high overpass in Lien Chieu District started in January this year.
Built by Japanese company Mikazuki, the overpass cost VND42 billion (US$1.78 million) and could be a highlight for the western part of city where tourism has not yet been bustling.
The overpass is built in Japanese style with curve sections made of wood to symbolize sea waves. It is also the first elevated pedestrian overpass along the coast of Da Nang.
The overpass is mainly made of steel and paved with stone, and is a gift to Da Nang to celebrate 50 years of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations.
After the inauguration ceremony, many Vietnamese and Japanese officials walked along the overpass.
The floor of the two observatories is decorated with ceramic lotus flower paintings.
The path leading to the overpass on both sides of the observatory recreates the image of a knot in the Japanese art of knitting, showing the strength of the friendship relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
From the middle of the bridge looking down Nguyen Tat Thanh Boulevard planted with green trees.
Outside the two observatories is a steel-spiral staircase and an elevator installed for people with disabilities and the elderly.
Odaka Yoshimune, chairman of Mikazuki Corporation, said that the overpass is to be used to help tourists get safely from Mikazuki Da Nang Resort & Spa to other areas.
Covering 13 hectares, the resort carries a distinct touch of Japanese architecture and other features like the miniature green garden in the shape of Fuji Mountain at its entrance.
It also has 294 beach-view rooms, with prices starting from VND3.7 million a night.
